Available for opportunities worldwide

I build AI systems, and the communities that use them.

Six years across machine learning, MLOps, and developer advocacy: shipping models to production at startups, growing open-source ecosystems at Iterative and DagsHub, and co-founding one of Africa's leading data communities. The work has reached more than 80,000 people across 120+ countries.

About

Technical enough to build the system. Human enough to ask who it serves.

Portrait of Gift Ojeabulu
Remote first · Working globally

Over six years ago, I started building things before anyone asked for them: communities, machine learning solutions, platforms, and ecosystems. What started as side projects now serves a global audience across 120+ countries.

At Iterative and DagsHub, I worked with distributed teams across Europe, North America and Asia, helping developers trust new tools, adopt new workflows, and build AI systems responsibly. At CBB Analytics, I turned raw basketball data into decisions for some of the biggest programs in US college sport. And at Data Community Africa, I went deep on something harder to measure: what happens when an entire continent of builders finally has a room of their own.

The tension between what's technically possible and who actually gets access to it is what drives everything I do. If you're building something that needs to last, something technically sound, community-rooted, and built for the world as it actually is, that's the work I show up for.

Capabilities

What I help teams build

I work at the intersection of AI engineering, developer experience, and community. Whether the challenge is shipping intelligent systems, growing product adoption, or building technical ecosystems, I focus on creating solutions that people actually use.

Build AI Systems

Design and ship production-ready AI applications that are reliable, scalable, and built around real user problems.

  • Ship production AI products
  • Build reliable ML infrastructure
  • Deploy production ML systems and LLM apps
  • Optimise data engineering pipelines
  • Automate complex AI workflows

Drive Developer Adoption

Help developers understand, trust, and successfully adopt technical products through education and advocacy.

  • Increase developer adoption
  • Scale Developer Relations strategy
  • Create high-impact technical content
  • Architect documentation and onboarding pathways
  • Accelerate open-source project growth

Scale Technical Communities

Build communities that create long-term product adoption instead of short-lived engagement.

  • Launch technical communities
  • Turn users into contributors
  • Design developer ambassador programs
  • Produce high-calibre technical events
  • Foster long-term ecosystem growth

The strongest AI products aren't just technically impressive. They're adopted by developers, supported by communities, and built around real people. That's where I do my best work.

Fit

Who I work best with

  • AI startups building developer tools
  • Foundation model companies growing developer ecosystems
  • Open-source companies and maintainers
  • Developer infrastructure and platform companies
  • Data, AI, and analytics companies building intelligent products
  • Mission-driven and social impact organisations using AI and data for public good
  • High-growth technology companies scaling AI, data, or developer teams
  • Organisations launching AI and developer products through technical go-to-market, developer education, and community-led growth

If your product lives where AI meets developers, we will work well together.

Experience

Where I've worked

Startups, open-source companies, and analytics firms, always at the intersection of shipping models and growing the people around them.

Community-led growth

Growth strategy for an AI-detection platform

Problem
AI detection was a crowded, low-trust category. GPTZero needed credibility with developers and educators, not more ads.
Approach
Developer-focused content frameworks, influencer partnerships, and a community-led distribution strategy per platform.
Impact
Positioned GPTZero as a leading AI-detection platform among developer and education audiences.
Lessons
Trust in AI products is earned through builders and educators, not campaigns.

Ecosystem growth and four-year impact report

Problem
Four years of pan-African community impact existed only as scattered data across platforms.
Approach
Synthesised growth metrics, education outcomes, events, hackathons, and partnerships into one strategic report.
Impact
A public, citable record of work spanning 40 African countries and more than 70 global regions.
Lessons
Documentation turns community goodwill into partnership and sponsorship leverage.

Movie recommendation system

Problem
Recommending relevant films to users with sparse rating histories, the classic cold-start problem.
Approach
Content-based and collaborative filtering with cosine similarity and matrix factorisation on MovieLens.
Impact
An open-source reference implementation for personalised recommendation at scale.
Lessons
Hybrid approaches beat any single technique on cold-start problems.
